On the 25th of january a drug was found to be effective a against the dreaded zika virus.It was said that the university of california found that a adrug used to treat hepatitis C effectively was found to rescue and protect neural cells from zika virus by blocking the transmission to the mouse fetuses.

Much of it has focused on developing a vaccine, with promising early results," said senior author Alysson Muotri, PhD. Outbreaks of zika infections in brazil 2015 and 2016 were seen in newborns with congenital malfunction .A great deal of research was done by researchers in pathology of zika infections. Researchers said that zika virus and hepatitis C belong to the same viral group and hence the muotri lab sought different clinical solutions.The group found an antiviral drug called sofosbuvir marketed under the band name sovaldi to treat and cure hepatitis C.The reasearchers said thet both hepatitis C and zika belong to the same group and have strong structural similarities and make sofosbuvir to be effective to the latter. And so he said that more operations are still performed on the drug to be able to bring out a cure for the virus.
