Cloudless Sky For A Setting Sun - January 25th 2018

With all of these beautiful sunset photos and videos I have been collecting and sharing.. I could totally track the annual change in the solar ecliptic node point where the Sun goes under the horizon from this location if I ever wanted to or needed.

The ecliptic is the path or line in the sky our sun travels through each day and is dependent upon your location and time of year. And where it sets exactly, also depends on where you are on the planet and what time of year it is. So since I live in the northern hemisphere, I will see the Sun's ecliptic shift more to the South during Winter. Towards the horizon so that during midday here, the Sun's highest point, is lower to the treeline than in Summer, where it would be more overhead during midday. On both the Autumnal and Vernal Equinoxes, the Sun should set rise from true east and set in true west. During Winter the Sun should set more to the south of true west. So come March 21st, I will be sure to be up in the air taking some photos and such to mark the exact location the Sun should set each and every year, from a specific location.

This is all thanks to the Earth's axis tilt of 23.5 degrees. Which everyone should know already. It is the reason for the seasons.
