POWER SATELLITE ..The next future technology
Technology is indeed getting better as each day passes with new inventions and discoveries. Things we didn't believe could exist actually do now; ranging from artificial hearts and lungs to portable technical devices. In truth, the world is really revolving. This keeps everyone guessing; what is going to be the next invention. We keep up with tabloids on what's going to pop up next. Will it be a device that can read minds? Or a gadget that allows you to see into the future? No one knows.
This finally brings us to the latest mind-blowing proposed invention which would hit the tabloids soon. It's nothing other than the ATTEMPT AT BUILDING A POWER SATELLITE WHICH COULD TAP INTO THE SUN'S ENORMOUS ENERGY SUPPLY. And such a supply of energy would not pollute the environment.!

Most of the already invented energy producers such as fossil fuels , hydroelectric power, nuclear energy, wind generator and solar panels either produce waste enough to pollute the environment or are not very efficient and stable in energy-producing.
Fossil fuels are destroyed by use I.e they cannot be recovered.HYDROELECTRIC SCHEMES can only be built in mountain regions where rainfall and rivers are plentiful.Such schemes involve damming rivers which upset the aquatic ecosystem. NUCLEAR REACTIONS produce nuclear energy.During this process, radioactive wastes are produced. This disposal poses a dangerous pollution problem.Accidents in nuclear reactors can endanger the future of the earth .So people in many countries are opposed to using nuclear energy.
Wood, oil and alcohol(from fermentation of sugar) could also be used as alternative sources of energy. As these are product of photosynthesis, they are renewable. However ,arable lands has to be used to produce the plants which supply these energy sources .This would be a problem as we do not have enough land even to produce our food needs and the little ones we have in certain rural areas are being industrialized.
This then brought the Idea of producing solar energy via solar power satellite which has been promising so far , as such schemes would provide us with inexhaustible supply of energy which would also not cause any pollution problems.
For more than 40 years , scientists have dreamed of collecting the sun's energy in space and beaming it back to earth.Despite the enormous promise of power , the drawbacks of technology remains significant. People need electricity everyday around the clock. But there's no part of the world that's cloud free 365 days every year , and there's no solar radiation at night .You have to find some way to store the energy for these " sunless" periods and there's not yet a large scale way to do that.

But there's a way to tap into the sun's energy 24 hours a day , everyday of the year and send it back anywhere on the globe .This can be possible through the LAUNCH OF POWER SATELLITES AND SOLAR PANELS INTO SPACE and beam the power back to earth.
The concept sounds far-fetched and wildly impractical, and when the Pentagon and space enthusiasts began talking about it back in the 60s and 70s, it was. Recently however, the idea of space-based solar power has begun to look less like science fiction and more like a technology whose time may be coming with the Pentagon and and private companies ramping up efforts to make space-based solar power a reality. - wikipedia
