School Bomb Hoax Believed To Be Part Of Minecraft Gaming Feud

in #school7 years ago

Over 400 schools were evacuated across England yesterday following 24,000 emails containing a bomb threat.
Police forces around the country quickly dispelled the emails, reassuring communities they had no viable threat.

This was reportedly the email that was sent to schools and colleges across the country
The threats are believed to have been sent with the intention of looking like VeltPvP were responsible.

VeltPvP is a Minecraft player-vs-player server and sells in-game items to users. They believe the incident is part of an ongoing campaign against them where they had been harassed by a group of cyber criminals.

@VeltPvP
We have nothing to do with the bomb threats that were sent out to the 400+ UK schools.

We've been being harassed by a group of cyber criminals that are trying to harass us in anyway possible.

We're extremely sorry for anyone who had to deal with this, but just know it's fake.

Sky News managed to speak to one of the people behind the attack. They admitted that threatening thousands of children and staff was “horrible, it’s not the nicest thing”.

However they went on and seemingly attempted to somewhat justify their actions. They accused Velt of engaging in distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks and targeting other rival Minecraft servers.

Obviously terrifying children and parents with absolutely no connection to the incident is a completely rational reaction.

Asked if he felt remorse for Monday’s scares in schools, one of the attackers said: “Mentally, kind of, yes – that’s human nature – but within the community, you have to become very thick skinned or you’ll get exploited.”

He added: “I’m not going to lose sleep over it.”
