Funny stories of a Math teacher
It was my dream since little girl to be a teacher. I studied to be Math teacher, but life drove me to other paths. I ended up working at a bank which I enjoyed very much. Nevertheless, when my work at the bank finished, I thought it could be a good idea to resume my dream.
My experience with Math teaching was very interesting, rich and full of stories. Here's one:
It was my first year teaching mathematics to 10/11 yo. It was happening an interdisciplinary project at the school, celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Discover of Brazil. My class was divided in groups of 5 or 6 students that had some acts performed to the rest of the class, with the important presence of the director and other teachers, representatives of the direction. I was anxious verifying all the groups: my major interest was the behavior of the children. At some point, a boy was hitting a girl with a rolled paper, in front of the class, while they were presenting their part. I tried to catch the boy attention, in a low tone, asking him to stop that. Of course, he wasn’t really hurting the girl, but it was a very bad behavior. He didn’t listen, so, I asked him to stop that in a louder voice. It was then that one of the teachers told me not to worry because it was part of the act (they were demonstrating how the owners treated the slaves back 500 years ago.
