In 1 Samuel 12:22 we find this promise of God: "For Jehovah will not abandon his people, by his great name; because Jehovah has wanted to make you his people."

God will always take the initiative to seek fellowship with those who receive and accept his love. God's great love for us is immense. So great is his love that he gave his son Jesus Christ on the cross to constitute a people and possess him in the greatness of his love.

If we review the Scriptures, again and again in the Old Testament, we see that the Lord takes the initiative to reach his people and reveal himself to them, for his intense desire to be with them and keep in communion with them. In 1 Samuel 12:22 we find this promise of God: "For Jehovah will not abandon his people, by his great name; because Jehovah has wanted to make you his people." God desires to have fellowship, harmony and communion with those who correspond to his expressions of friendship.

We can count on the intimate company of the Lord, even if everyone leaves us. We see this in the life of Jesus. The same night he was arrested and subjected to the trial that led to his crucifixion, he told his disciples: "Behold, the hour is near, and has come now, when they will disperse and leave me abandoned." Can you feel your pain in these words? Jesus knew how loneliness feels, but he added: "But I am not alone, because the Father is with me" (Jn 16:32). Jesus also knew the comfort that can be received in the midst of total abandonment.

When loneliness overwhelms us, the first thing we should do is stop looking at what we lack and appreciate what we have. And what do we have? To God Himself!

You can never be alone if you have trusted Jesus Christ as your Savior. He promises to live within you as soon as you receive him in his life, and is connected to you as the vine to its branches. Just as the sap flows through the plant and its branches, the love of Christ flows in you and through you. He remains in you, and you remain in Him. You are one with Christ. He has with him the deepest and most intimate relationship that exists, because he is spiritual and eternal (Jn 15: 1-9).

Now, dear reader, the depth of this relationship depends a lot on you. How willing are you really to Him being revealed? In reality, you can never completely isolate yourself from the Lord because He is always there, wishing you were closer and closer.
The Lord is our faithful companion, either alone or in any adverse circumstances of life. He wants to have fellowship with us and give us the necessary strength to move forward in the different directions of life, without losing focus on our final destination, which is heaven.
