The Satoshi Parable

An Eerie Parallel

The Bitcoin story is developing along some eerie parallels to something that happened two thousand years ago. That story, as it was passed down to us, allegedly went something like this:

A people of a small kingdom called Judea had received a prophecy from their God that a future Messiah would come to liberate them from their foreign Statist oppressors. Many prophets came in a short time, and all gave confirming messages.

But, then the messages stopped coming.

For a long time there was silence. They prayed to their God, but no answers came. The prophets were silent for four centuries.

A religion was built around this future Messiah. They formed an ideal image of him in their minds and poured their best hopes and dreams into that image. But the leaders of that religion started exploiting the followers for their own gain.

Then, when it was least expected, the long awaited Messiah finally showed up in person. He started doing thing that a Messiah would do. He healed people, revealed deep wisdom, and stuff like that.

But he was not what they had hoped for. They really wanted somebody to overthrow the Statist foreign power that ruled over them. They had doubts. Could this really be him?

People demanded that he perform a specific sign for them to prove he was really the Messiah, but he refused their demand.

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.”

But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.

So, the unrecognized Messiah, gave them a different sign. He threatened to destroy their precious city and their temple.

[He] said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down... Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.

He basically said he was going to come back in wrath and crush them and their city.

The people of the kingdom were disappointed and angry. Their Messiah refused to perform their test! They began to curse and revile him.

When they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” Then they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him away to be crucified.

And those who passed by blasphemed Him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who destroy the temple and build it in three days, save Yourself! If You are the Son of God, come down from the cross.”

Likewise the chief priests also, mocking with the scribes and elders, said, “He saved others; Himself He cannot save. If He is the King of Israel, let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe Him. He trusted in God; let Him deliver Him now if He will have Him; for He said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

Those who claimed to be adherents of the future Messiah and built an entire cult religion around his future appearance. But they flat out rejected the guy when he showed up. Their reason for rejecting him? He refused to give them the sign that they demanded.

But, he did give them a sign. Thirty-nine and a half years after they crucified him, the Romans came and destroyed the city, leaving not a single stone stacked upon another, just like he had told them would happen. The new system that he brought went on to revolutionize Europe and the Middle East.

Bitcoin Messiah

An unknown god, calling himself "Satoshi Nakamoto," gave the world an amazing gift - the gift of Bitcoin. Bitcoin promised to revolutionize the world and liberate the people from the banksters.

Satoshi trained his twelve disciples and gave them the sacred white paper, containing his holy words.

They began to carry out his instructions, and were excited to find that it really worked!

But then Satoshi simply disappeared. Despite 70,000 emails to his last known address he would not answer their prayers.

His followers built a cult around Satoshi Nakamoto. They poured all of their best hopes and dreams into their image of him.

Though their founder had departed from them, they pulled together around his words and continued building the system toward his ideals.

But as all religions eventually do, the movement started being dominated by people who manipulated the true believers for their own gain. They gradually started to depart from Satoshi's original vision.

Then the real Satoshi suddenly and unexpectedly appeared to them. But, he was not at all like the god they had imagined Satoshi to be.

But, how could this be? Surely, this man with his obvious and glaring flaws could not be our exalted leader, our Bitcoin Messiah!

So the people demanded that he give them a sign.

Move the Satoshi genesis coins, or we will not believe you.

But he refused to give them the sign that they demanded. So they reviled him and mocked him and cursed him as a fraud and a charlatan.

We will not listen to anything you say until you give us the sign we demanded!

Don't give this attention whore attention.

He is a drunk madman.

He is unhinged!

He threatened the Bitcoin community!

The zealots of the Bitcoin cult viciously attacked "pseudo-Satoshi" in 2015-2016 when he was being chased and on the run, because he did not live up to their expectations or pass their test in the way that they demanded.

One year later, pseudo-Satoshi is back. But, this time he has a lot of money and hashpower behind him. And he is angry. He has promised to deliver a sign to the unbelievers.

But it is not the kind of sign that they had hoped to see.

Satoshi has just threatened to crush the unbelievers and replace them with true believers, by releasing his own code and building his own mining pool.

It seems the Bitcoin community is about to face Satoshi's wrath.
