Sandy Beach: South Oahu

Aloha

This morning I visited Sandy beach on the South side of the island of Oahu. It’s less than a mile from a popular snorkeling site call Hanauma Bay. After a night of heavy rain and thunder, a drive to air out the musky smell of my soaked car was a very nice excuse to visit a beach that is very popular for its strong waves for body surfing. Even though it’s barely 8am, you can bet our local bodysurfing enthusiasts are already here bright and early to catch the waves before the start of their day.

As I sat here along the cement wall along the parking area, there’s the star of this place; countless waves between 2-5 foot, crashing along the short sandy shoreline. What a spectacular sight, to say the least.

In this first photo is a bodyboard surfer taking a little break. A chair is settled deep into the sand waiting for another exhausted boarder to sit down for a breather...

In this photo the waves looks purely gorgeous but if you look closer, inside of the wave you can see a speck of a person caught inside of it. Personally, that’s pretty frightening to someone who’s terrified of deep water, like myself...

As a boarder takes a break, overlooking his beautiful challenge, a lifeguard is busy staking a dangerous strong wave warning poles all over this beach. May I suggest something worth mentioning; if you’ve never surf or swam in ocean waves before, please don’t brave this one. Trust me, I was that tourist who got slammed like a rag doll inside of a washing machine with bikini bottom full of sand and a torn ego to go with. Never again!

One day, onyour vacation to Honolulu, please take a nice drive down the Southside of the island ofOahu for some of our spectacular ocean and beach views. More importantly, it’s free, so please do slow down and pull over once in a while to see the beauty, smell the clean ocean air and feel the bountiful of love this island wants to give you.

And as always, until we meet again, have a wonderful day.

Aloha!

So many non-touristy places I have yet to explore in Oahu. Need to go back asap! Thanks for sharing this place :)

All non-tourist spots are a matter of getting into car. Drive. Pull over. Breath in the scenery. Be willing to stand into newness of a spot...

That’s it. It usually doesn’t have loud noise, long line, nor written on YELP...can you handle that...

FYI: Tourists are suckers for what’s popular. Locals don’t share those places. No offense.

beautiful beach.
beach that can make the soul calm .. hehhehe

Yes, the beach is great at calming the soul. I agree!

I guess there's also some hungry sharks around)

Hehe, not that morning. Why do I get the feeling you’ve mentioned sharks on my prior post from months back?! Ok, probably because of too many beach posts.

Aloha @svamiva!
