Feeling wanting to urinate when not right is sometimes annoying.
The urge to urinate arises when the bladder has reached the capacity to hold the urine. As an adult bladder note can hold a half liter of urine.
When capacity is reached, the bladder walls that have tiny receptors will send messages to the brain.
Fortunately most humans have full control over the function of the bladder. So when the brain receives the message, we have the choice to go directly to the toilet or hold it.
The question that often arises regarding this is what happens to the bladder as we hold urine?
Michael Aranda explains in the Scishow show when we postpone the decision to urinate, sphincter (a collection of muscle fibers like a ring to close the natural pathway on the body) the cylinder in the bladder will shut tight so urine does not leak through the urethra.
These small muscles are very powerful, the proof they can do that consistently for a long time. For example, like an inter-city bus driver who regularly travel far.
This urinating habit will be a problem if you do it for years. Michael says there are longer-term effects and higher risk of infection and serious.
One of the risks is weakening of the bladder muscle. This can lead to urinary retention or a dreaded condition preventing you from actually emptying your bladder while urinating, meaning that you often feel like urinating.
Holding urine in large quantities and a long time is also at risk of inviting harmful bacteria to the body. It can cause urinary tract infection (UTI) or bladder infection.
Whether this can be life-threatening or not, let's remember what happened to Tycho Brahe, a Danish astronomer and alchemist of the sixteenth century.
During his lifetime Brahe was involved in observing celestial bodies such as supernovas, comets, and planetary orbits.
The cause of his death is rumored ludicrous. This begins when he feels he can not urinate at all, just after the entire contents of his bladder out he died.
In some cases like this, it can be caused because the bladder has been damaged for some reason or signal.
