Safety Measures
We all carry out one job or another every single day. Ranging from house chores to office work, we engage in different activities like cleaning, cooking, driving, paper works, lifting heavy stuffs via machines, etc. These activities themselves can be at the same time tasking and at times dangerous if the necessary things are not in place. That's where safety comes in. I'm breaking this topic into three sections: safety at home, safety on the highway, and safety in the workplace. For today, I'll be sharing my idea on how to observe safety measures at home.

Safety at Home
It is a wise saying that charity begins at home. I'll give a story I heard long time ago. It was about a man a seer prophesied to that he will be involved in an accident. The man left town and headed for the village in a bid to stop the prophecy. When he got there, he decided to stay put for a long while to avert the impending disaster. Unfortunately, while he was asleep on this fateful day, a lizard climbed a wall and a mud stone that was not well set came tumbling on the man and hit him in the face. He died instantly in his sleep. Such a tragedy. He thought nothing could get to him at home. He was wrong.
Now, let's take away our focus from that Man and check our day to day life. You might as well be wondering what's the use of this story. And don't get scared. The goal is not to instill fear, but to show you God's mercies in preserving you. I live with a Doctor who see numerous cases everyday. I've learnt from Him what to do and what not to. There are a host of things we do that should not be. I'll list them shortly.
I. Placing your gas cylinder indoors.
This is very dangerous as any gas leakages from the hose can result in fire outbreak. Some people argue that thieves will steal their gas cylinder. Let's assume it is true. Which is better, losing your cylinder or your properties and your life? What it will cost to put your cylinders outdoors is a longer hose. For people living in a bungalow, it is more easier to achieve compared with people living upstairs.
II. Operating electrical appliances with wet hands.
This often leads to electrocution. Electronics, fuse, switches, wall sockets, etc should be operated with dry hands. You must switch the fuse box to neutral before covering naked wires with tapes. Never clean any appliances when it is on. I once saw an indigenous movie where the female Servant did and was electrocuted on the spot. It's a no no thing.
III. Using mobile phones close to generators or filling stations.
I know probably you might have done this a million times without experiencing any fire outbreak. But try and pay visit to hospitals, and you will find out that such practises have claimed lives. To make such matters worse, there is no real remedy for fire burns. It leaves the victim totally disfigured. For me, it has become an unconscious effort to put out my mobile device when I am turning on the generator. Life is too precious to throw away. Remember the second temptation of Jesus? If You are the son of God, cast yourself down. Jesus' response was dont put God to a foolish test. It means throwing life away is putting the Lord to a foolish test. So, the next time you receive a call in the filling station, you are putting the Lord to a foolish test. The next time you put on your phone light to fill or turn on your generator, you are putting the Lord to a foolish test.

IV. In the case of an electrical fault, call an experienced personnel to fix it rather than exposing yourself to unnecessary risk.

V. Never overload your extension box as it can result in fire outbreak.
VI. Always remember to turn off the gas after cooking. (So many people have given this as testimonies in Church, but it can be averted).
VII. Always turn off light bulbs when there is really no use for it at that moment. It accumulate bills for You. If possible when leaving home, turn the fuse box to neutral.
VIII. Avoid using naked wires or headless fuse to plug your appliances. It burns the wall socket and might render the appliances useless or make them faulty.
IX. Knives and sharp equipments should be kept out of the reach of children. (You know why).
X. Avoid spilling water or leaving slippery things on the floor. You dont want to know what it can result into.
XI. Clean your dishes before and after meal. Piling it up can breed mosquitoes, rodents, etc.
XII. Poor lighting system or oil lamps should not be used for reading purposes as they may affect the eyes in the long run. Although, they can be used for decorative purposes.
