Old Ryazan, Russia.
The place where the city of Ryazan stood in the period from the 10th to the 13th century. Located on the high bank of the Oka River, it was a large trading city, built as a border outpost of Kievan Rus and was the center of the Ryazan principality. In December 1237, the troops of Batu Khan after a nine-day siege broke into the city. Ryazan was completely burned, almost all the inhabitants and the prince were killed.
