A Token For Runners, Powered By PoR (Proof of Run)
This is the first post under this new account and I expect it not to be the last.
RUNCOIN is a token started by my passion for running. Oh, but I don't think we've been properly introduced: I'm @dragosroua, a Steemit witness, a runner, story-teller and geek. Not necessarily in that order.
RUNCOIN was issued first as a token on the bitshares network where it currently trades for BTS. In the future, it may be translated on a different chain or it may build its own.
So please follow, resteem, you know the drill.

Until now there have been 10 distribution rounds, in which, on a 10 days time window, people could post their proof of run on the Steemit blockchain and be rewarded with 1$ worth of RUNCOIN. Since the initial experiment was successful (people seemed to be liking the motivation) I decided to move forward and build an app.
You will find future information about this app - and any other developments of the token under this account, from now on.

I know it's very early days but I would be super stoked to wear a T-shirt with the runcoin branding on running events. Just food for thought for now.

I don't understand, how that should be done: "…people could post their proof of run on the Steemit blockchain…". Make a Selfie in running gear?
You could make a bridge between popular tracking sites (Strava, Runkeeper, Garmin Connect, Suunto, ...) and Steem blockchain.
Then you would simply share your workout to runcoin aware app that would write your Proof of Run to the blockchain.

Basically it would be a share to Steem plugin, addon, app, whatever ... With some added goodies like Runcoin distribution. Or even Runcoin as a SMT, possibly?
RUNCOIN as a SMT would be probably the best way to go. Still not sure about how the tech would work, though, so the liquidity plugin should be agnostic, capable of working out of the box with Bitshares, SMT, even Ethereum, if need will be.

The biggest issue I see with ERC20 tokens is that they piggyback on Ethereum blockchain and thus inherit the gas / transaction fees and congest the network.
Imagine some ICO ERC20 token for electricity distribution or tickets sale really start making traffic on the network. The rest of the transactions can go to sleep, basic eth payouts included :)
ERC20 concept has not taken the real life test - yet.
I don't know how will it be with SMT. Didn't read anything about it till now...
Steem blockchain with Proof of Stake, no fee and regular blocks is much more suitable for sidechains or whatever you call them.

This sounds pretty epic. I'm just now reading this post but I'm very curious. What is the progress on runcoin? How can I get involved? @runcoin
