  1. T-Mobile's merger with Sprint is likely causing delays with its 5G purchase orders - T-Mobile had expected their merger with Sprint to close by June or July this year, but it still has not been completed. This has cost the company revenue, and apparently interfered with business planning, as T-Mobile has begun notifying vendors that it is delaying orders for infrastructure projects until 2020. The article notes that this risks alienating suppliers and other third parties as well as causing reputation issues for a combined company that will still have far fewer customers than AT&T or Verizon.

  2. This Louisiana Teen Made a School Closet Full of Donated Clothes for Needy Classmates - In response to a request for ideas to improve operations, 13-year-old Chase Neyland-Square suggested that his school could create a closet of donated clothing and school supplies that could be used by classmates who needed them. The Port Allen Middle School in Port Allen, Louisiana implemented the suggestion, and the donated items are now available in a pantry behind the gymnasium. More here.

  3. Animated chart of the day: The remarkable story of female success in US higher education - In short, based on data and projections from the US Department of Education, women are dominating higher education - at all degree levels. They've received more bachelors degrees than men since 1982, more masters degrees since 1987, and more doctorates since 2006.

  4. 45% of workers make this smart move to boost their salary - According to data from the staffing firm, Robert Half, workers are increasingly spending time researching competitive salary levels, 54% of workers swap salary information with coworkers, and 45% of workers have used this information in negotiations with employers or potential employers. The data comes from a survey of 1,000 office workers across the US, and 2,800 office workers in major cities.

  5. Unisys suing tech firm for $6.8M over fees tied to work at 7-Elevens - Apparently, Unisys replaced payments terminals at 7 - Eleven stores, with the expectation that the new products from NEC would require less service than their predecessors. In reality, the devices failed at a higher rate, but Unisys had agreed to contract terms based on the promise of lower service rates. Now, negotiations towards changing the contract terms have failed, so Unisys is trying to collect the difference in court. The company has requested a jury trial.

  6. STEEM Communication is the key to relationship success - In this essay, @dana-edwards argues that a primary factor in maintaining a successful relationship is the ability to communicate. The essay covers topics including the danger of miscommunication, the pull of relationships with third parties on communications between two parties, and relationship with the community. Against this backdrop, the essay suggests an approach to effective communications: (i) Agree on a common language; (ii) Be clear; (iii) Share personal values; (iv) Work for continuous improvement; and (v) Choose and use a consistent "official" means of communication.
