I would like to change my long 20 character password here on Steemit to something simple that I can remember when I log into various computers and tablets. can you help me find out how I can do this?
Do NOT do this, your steemit password is the key to the vault, never EVER have a simple password on something as important as this. If you wish to change it to something simpler make sure it is at least 12+ characters and using uppercase and lowercase and at least one special character like !@#$%&* please!

So, where can I store the original password, then use it on my tablet or phone?
I'm not sure what browser you are using on your phone or tablet, but perhaps you can store it in a password manager on there and autofill it? do some googling with the words (your browser, your device, password manager)

Exactly as I said. :) use a password manager or make it 12 chars with at least one uppercase and alphanumeric.
Shall I change the password inside steemit, then use it on my phone and tablet or other computers if I like. Will it cause me to be hacked by dishonest people? I can easily create a 12 character word that I can remember.
