Three Roommates Bought and Old Sofa and What They Found Inside Was Completely Unexpected
Today is my second post !
i want to talk about Three Roommates Bought and Old Sofa and What They Found Inside Was Completely Unexpected i hope this is amazing for you .
One of the perks of living with a roommate is that you get to cover not only the expenses of the rent but also the expenses of buying things and furniture for the house.
In this particular case, three New York flatmates got a big surprise after they decided to buy a second-hand sofa, it turns out that inside of it there was not only one but several envelopes stuffed with money.
Reese Werkhoven, Cally Guasti, and Lara Russo were the three young protagonists of this story, they all had decided that it was time to buy something for their place and so they opted for acquiring an old 20 dollar sofa that had been donated to the Salvation Army store.
The purchased took place in early March 2014, but it wasn’t until the middle of April of that year that one of the roommates, Reese Werkhoven, realized there was something strange in the way the new piece of furniture looked, the arm cushions were weirdly lumpy.
So out of curiosity, he opened a zipper on one arm and found an envelope, big was his surprise when after opening that envelope, he found $ 4000 in bubble-wrapped bills.
Immediately Werkhoven called his two other roommates and together started to remove all the hidden envelopes in the sofa, after finishing, they started counting all the money. The final amount was $ 40 800 dollars.
At first, they didn’t know what to do, there was a long debate on whether or not keeping the money, after all, $ 40 800 could mean not having to pay rent for a few months, especially since they were living in an expensive city as New York is.
Not a single one of the roommates was a 100 percent sure about what to do, so they called to their parents and asked for advice, the answer they got was pretty simple “Don’t spend the money”.
It was all clear, despite the temptation of having all that money in front of them, the three roommates knew that spending it wasn’t the right thing to do, so they managed to track the previous sofa owner and gave her a call.
It turns out that its original owner was a 91-year-old widow who didn’t authorize her sofa to be donated, in fact, the old lady used to sleep on that sofa, but it was due to back problems that her daughter and son-in-law decided to get her a bed and donate the sofa to the Salvation Army store from where it was later bought.
The old widow’s relatives didn’t know about all the hidden money in the sofa, so you can imagine the tears of gratitude this family showed when the three honest roommates showed up to their home and returned the cash.
When interviewed, the roommates stated that all the money they found, were the savings that the old lady and her late husband had saved for decades.
So as a reward they got 1000 dollars and the satisfaction of knowing that they did the right thing.
Clearly, a kind gesture that makes us think this world isn’t lose yet, so tell us what would you do if you find $ 40 000 in an old couch you bought.
