Why I moved from Canada to Romania

Brasov Romania
This is a question I get asked all the time. Why in the world would I leave a country like Canada in the first place, and then move to a former eastern block country. First I will say, no I am not of Romanian heritage. I am a 2nd generation Canadian with Scottish ancestry.
So why Romania? Well my first trip to Romania was in 2010 and this was Constanta. I was invited to teach a martial arts seminar there, and so I accepted. But I did not expect what I found! The country was simply beautiful! Plus there was a woman I met, but let's face it, there is always a woman.

I traveled back and forth visiting as often as I could. She even came to Canada in 2015 to see what the country was like. However Canada was just not for her. I had already planned to move there as it was. After my mother passed in 2015 one of my boys and I made our plans to move. Destination was Brasov a city in the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania.

There are many challenges to moving to another country. I love Romania because the people are friendly and family values still exist here. It is safe and peaceful. Plus it gave me a chance to kick back and enjoy a less fast paced life. In the future I may end up relocating to another part of the country, but that is what the adventure is all about.
Return to Canada? Nope, not interested. My 2 children who are adults and live in Canada can come and visit me here! So why do I write this post? On your next planned vacation consider Romania.
I will leave you with a video of Brasov, which is probably the best city in the world!
Thanks for reading!
Looks like an amazing and beautiful country!

Thank you for your efforts to create quality content!
Before you when to Romania to teach martial arts for the first time, who would have told you the amazing things it would happen there and that you would now be living there.
Thanks a lot for sharing such a personal and beautiful story.

Very welcome. I am actually going to do several posts on Romania. It is far from the country of the communist days. Plus currently for people of the western countries it is a very cheap vacation. It will not stay that way as things continue to grow and improve. Plus it has the fastest internet in Europe :D
