Enterprises to prevent diarrhea outbreaks among Rohingyas
United Nations Refugee Organization UNHCR, Bangladesh Public Health Authority and other stakeholders work together to prevent the spread of Rohingya refugees, especially the diarrhea among them. The 20-bed diarrhea medical center was opened on Monday in Kutupalong camp of the country's southeast. Under this center, UNHCR has integrated local and foreign private aid agencies under the Refugee Health Center of Bangladesh Government. UNHCR spokesman Andrzej Mahasik said this in a press briefing in Geneva. He said that at the end of this week, there will be 80 beds in 3 places for diarrhea treatment. There are plans to open 3 more centers in the next week. Apart from this, there are plans to open medical consultation center along with an additional reorganization center in the extended area of 2,000 acres of Kutupalong this week. Many of the more than 500,000 Rohingyas who have taken refuge in Bangladesh since August 25, are in this area and they are mobilizing for assistance. This initiative has been taken to provide health care to their needs. The United Nations agency is providing assistance to the health ministry of Bangladesh to provide cholera vaccines for Rohingyas. The company has set up 32 salon tube wells and 250 latrines with the help of stakeholders to prevent the spread of diseases, severe illness and unwanted deaths. UNHCR has been working to formulate a list of new Rohingya recruits and to determine their needs with the Refugee Relief and Rectification Commission (RRC) of the Government of Bangladesh.
