We've gone too far now... Saudi Arabia is the first country to grant citizenship to a robot.
A robot named Sophia is now the world's first robot to be granted citizenship. Has the world completely lost it? What is going on and why all the madness?
In this article I'll be exploring what exactly has happened and how it will eventually affect us all.
Saudi Arabia bestowed citizenship on Sophia ahead of the Future Investment Initiative, held in the kingdom's capital city of Riyadh on Wednesday.
Is this really a wise idea? Granting a robot citizenship is only one step away from granting them human rights and then what? The lines are being blurred and the consequences that we all certainly will face are beyond comprehension.
"I am very honored and proud of this unique distinction," Sophia told the audience, speaking on a panel. "This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship."
Where is the soul? Isn't there an implication that to be a citizen you also have to be a human being?
At the event, Sophia also addressed the room from behind a podium and responded to questions from moderator and journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin. Questions pertained mostly to Sophia's status as a humanoid and concerns people may have for the future of humanity in a robot-run world.
This must be a publicity stunt, a ploy for Saudi Arabia to gain additional funding in the field of robotics and technology. What is the end game strategy here? This reminds me of something right out of an outer-limits episode.

I've made it my job to research new technologies and write about them. This is one of the most disturbing things I've seen in the past 3 months of reporting on this niche. I've presented material about genetics, AI, warfare and robotics. Granting citizenship to a robot is silly but beyond that it is dangerous. The corporation is one of the most dangerous concepts ever invented. It has allowed people to commit all sorts of atrocious acts and hide behind a shield as they claim no responsibility for their actions... If it really hits the fan, the corporation could become bankrupt. What do you guys think about a robot gaining citizenship? It seems to me to be a slippery slope and discussion needs to be made here.

@techblogger I've just stumbled on this piece today and I gotta say I totally feel you man... I really can't understand the basis behind it ( although I think that ,as you said, it's a mere publicity stand ) but besides that, the really dangerous thing is that by giving citizenship to robots ( TOTALLY absurd) we devalue OUR OWN citizenship.
Yeah that's a serious problem actually. I think in the past ( not quite sure though) corporations were created by charters that designated their purpose for existing and whenever they violated that charter they were dissolved. Same thing when corps were becoming stronger than they should, they would get dismantled. Although I don't trust the state in many of its affairs I TOTALLY don't trust corps in most of their affairs...
Yep. The corporations which protect the criminals that own them. The governments run by the same people that own the corporations. The robots with citizenship looking down on the refugees whose dream it is simply to get citizenship for themselves and their families. What a mess right? Lets live our lives and empower others around us to do the same. Another day another dollar right?
Yeah... and each day has enough trouble on its own so I don't really mind about the future :)

It is scary for us, of course, but on the other hand, it is just a natural step of evolution. (Probably in this case too early, as Sophia´s smart answers seem to not come from an inherent thinking mind, but are largely preprogrammed.). In my post about the future of mankind

I suggest that in future the transhumans and AIs live together as separate species in respect for each other. Thus citizenships will be the most normal things.
