Absence of Color - A Book Review

in #reviews7 years ago

Ever read those stories that deal with some heavy crap in a light way? Well, this is one of them. Don't get me wrong, I thought this book was a fantastic read, but there were some things that I read I really was not prepared for.

Things this book contains:

  • Mention of rape (not graphic)
  • The villain likes little boys and gets excited when he kills (this was disgusting and infuriating)

So needless to say the villain was really, really unlikable.

Although this book is set in a different world filled with magic and a lack of modern technology, it seems like it's based on what would be considered the medieval age which makes sense. There are a lot of messed up people in the world today, but I can imagine things were just as messed up in the ages with no electricity or Netflix. We're living through a time where people are empowered to speak up about rape, assault, racism and we have the technology to spread the word that this violence is not acceptable. Back then it was just accepted as a part of life and this books covers this harsh reality. It makes you root even harder for the good guys in this book who are fighting against the the horrifying powers that be. It is a journey I would highly recommend, but be warned it is not for the faint of heart.
