Hey steemers, today I'm going to be reviewing a game that I purchased using steem! Pretty cool to be able to say that! I picked up Mario Kart 8 for my Nintendo Switch.
I gotta say, I was totally impressed with this version of Mario Kart. It doesn't seem like a game you can add a whole lot to, but this one they really did it. By mastering old & new maps, balancing items, adding new characters & car combinations they really stream lined this into the best Mario Kart. My only complaint was the addition of smart steering, which I understand helps noobs but a veteran video gamer like myself only see's it as a handicap. Sometimes it will auto-steer you in a direction you didn't want to go. It basically just eliminates noobs from using a speed boost mushroom straight into a wall, off a cliff, etc.
Another great addition to this Mario Kart is the 200cc racing. The old school Mario Karts only had 50cc (easy), 100cc (novice), 150cc (pro) classes for you to participate in. The 200cc class makes you really have to focus on your driving skills opposed to relying on items. I was also very impressed with the online match making. Nintendo Switch online is completely free (for now) opposed to paying for something like xbox live. Within minutes of turning on the system you can be in a 12 person online race. There is no lag online like there was when they first released online match making on the nintendo DS. The online has no real objectives or extras, more for bragging rights. You do accumulate a score but it doesn't do anything. Everyone starts with a 1000 rating and depending on which place you come in your score goes up or down. Within a few hours I was able to boost my score to 1500. The highest I've seen is around 4000. I don't believe Nintendo takes rating into consideration while match making.
It blows my mind how tiny these Nintendo Switch games are. Look at the size of it next to a spoon! I would have used a coin but couldn't find any (all my coins are crypto). I've been told the game tastes sour so if a baby tries to eat it, they'll spit it out. I'm not gonna try it, sorry folks!
All in all I would give Mario Kart 8 a solid 10/10. Classic game that will always be a family favorite forever!
