RE: Star Trek: Discovery Review - NO SPOILERS

in #review7 years ago

As a trekkie I do not like this show. They misuse technology and misrepresent well established alien reaces and philoshophy.
When I found myself yelling at the screen several times in the course of one episode I realized this show is not for me.
It might have been better had it not been called Star Trek or attempted to work within that established universe. But it does, and as such, it is not doing a good job.

I can see what you're saying with all the changes they have made to the races and things like spors. But what do you think of the new movies, because even though I'm not a hardcore star trek fan this series is definitely more star trek in my opinion.

The new movies were far more "summer action candy" than ST in my opinion.
The relationships between Kirk, Spock and McCoy were built over time in TOS to include a lot of comlexity. It felt like they were trying to skip the build up and get straight to the end in the new movies.
Plus, there were so many plot holes: a serum to basically bring people back from the dead, teleportation that can span light years and reach other planets ans star systems..
It was like taking all the depth from the frenchise I liked. It talkde about humanity, the future, technology and choices. It was never only about explosions in space.
Spock (and later Data and 7of9) were put on the show to exentuate what it means to be human.
Now I feel that New Spock is perhaps the most human of all and kirk is just a little kid that happens to get a chair that is way to big for him.
