Christiane F. – Wir Kinder vom Bahnhof Zoo Review
When you hit rock bottom.
Today's review will be about one of the most important movies I have seen in my life.
This is one of those movies after which you have a huge amount of thoughts and analyze different paths.
The film is a psychological portrait of an addicted person. We meet young Christiane, who is only 13 years old when she comes to the conclusion that the whole society is evil.
She lives in a block of flats with her mother and sister and knows that overnight her will to exist passes.
A lot changes when I meet a friend who introduces her to the Sound club. New people, different music, a better person for a while, but the "fairy tale" quickly ends and sees how many people are using drugs. She also decides to try. This is how her journey to Hell itself begins. Full of potholes, bad and disgusting decisions, falling lower and lower to the very bottom.
She also meets the boy she falls in love with. She knows it's love, she knows it's love, so she gives herself to him, but her boyfriend brings her to a higher level of drug use.
The next stages of Dante's hell, together with Christiane, we see how she tries to break free, but she lacks strength and motivation. Even when her close friends "get a golden shot", she cannot stop with it. He goes lower and lower.
As viewers, we see the transformation from a teenager into a wreck of a man who can do anything for a plot of drugs. The film is a shocking demonstration of what one dose can do to a person and how far a person can go to have that "high" still.
There are many such films, but here it is showered with the European dirt of the 1980s. Not only in Germany, the streets were filled with walking dead bodies, but and in Poland, teenagers were looking for a way to break away from reality.
The film shows the problem of German teenagers who spent their time at railway stations to earn drugs by prostituting themselves. We have several heroes in the movie, all of them addicted and on the verge of dying.
The movie is based on the book and is a biography of Christiane. However, even if she managed to get away from the addiction once, the addiction, unfortunately, caught her sooner or later (recently there were news that she returned to the addiction)
The series was created not so long ago, but it does not reflect this dark atmosphere full of sadness and the desire to run away. Uli Edel's film is a shocking work that everyone should watch before they think about drugs.
It's a movie that gives you many, many years to think about and makes you don't want to end up like any of these characters.
