"A Quiet Place" - movie review

in #review7 years ago (edited)

"Horror" is one of those very controversial concepts that cause almost as much debate as "Episode VIII: The Last Jedi" - is it horrible when only things suddenly pop out and the story is written by a third grade? Is it horror when there is unbearable tension all the time, but "there is nothing scary"? "A Quiet Place" is one of the films in this debate that bravely occupy the middle ground of a horror thriller and that only makes them better. John Kissinger's third film as a director (after "The Hollers" and "Brief Interviews with Hidden Men") relies on his excellent original hook - a family living in a postcaplicoptic world where it does not have to make any sound, and does not let you for a minute to rest until you see the final inscriptions.

John Krasnysky and Emily Blunt, married couple for example and real life, play mother and father of three children who live in isolation and silence, afraid of monsters with extremely harsh hearing, which are all in seconds destroy. They have developed systems to maintain a fairly normal existence on their farm, planted with corn, so that they can live with minimal noise - they draw the planks of the boards on which they can step without creaking, have a soundproofed basement and use sign language. The gestures that they have probably learned for the help of their deaf daughters (the extraordinary Milissent Simunds - a deaf actress and real-life). Because they do not have to make noise, the film has a very little dialogue that puts the cast in the difficult position to convey the emotions and experiences of their characters almost entirely with expressions and mimics that make you more than impeccable. Unnecessarily, I think, is to discuss Emily Blount, a world-class actress (who did not see Sicario fix the mistake instantly). The scene in which the film is being promoted, in which she gives birth to a child in her tub without making noise, will remain in the audience's mind for months. Attention should be paid to the two young actors, Milisent Simmonds and Noa Jupp, who make the audience immerse in the nightmare they live in.

Most importantly, I will remember John Krasnysky, who has the difficult task of directing, being the main screenwriter but also playing a major role that will undoubtedly remain as a luminous star in his resume - paternal care, dedication and indolence in the face of horror, which he radiates with all his being, will not be forgotten for a long time. The technical achievements of "A Quiet Place" should also not be underestimated. With an estimated budget of $ 18 million, this is a relatively low-budget production that looks impressive. More than visual, however, makes use of sound / music and silence. The film switches between the perspective of the heroes when there is music or background noises, and the prospect of the deaf daughter, when suddenly every sound disappears and a simple echo is heard, listening to a raptured eagle. This technique affects the viewer so much that when, during the screening at which I was present, one of them was screaming the phone, all the heads turned at the same time horrified in the direction of the offender. "A Quiet Place" relies on monsters as much as every film needs an antagonist. His true value is in family relationships that hit the viewer in the heart, even if he never felt a real fear of his life. The topics of family affection and dedication, the absolute willingness of parents to do everything for their children, even the relationship between brother and sister - precisely these are the essence of what makes the film so successful.

For fans of the classic horror, "A Quiet Place" may seem boring, as it relies on very different priorioms to create tension. At the same time, admirers of quality thrillers will easily notice that in some places the cheap and elemental frightening when something pops up on the screen becomes more than necessary. There is a moment that is a seemingly irritating horror cliche, but it passes easily. The same goes for a few details that remain inexplicable, and are important enough to even be considered holes in the plot, such as the presence of electricity at an extremely convenient time. In spite of one or two apparent errors in the logic of the movie, which become more noticeable, the more you think about them, "A Quiet Place" is a movie that performs its task more than successfully. Visually impressive and emotionally engaging, he is one of those films that do not just stay in mind, but create themes for conversation for a long time. I have no doubt that it will remain in the future, if nothing else, like the first film after "Get out" Which reinforces the tendency of modern times that comedian actors are extremely capable of producing meaningful and meaningful hordes that have something to say.

That is a topnotch review. I like your forgiveness of the "irritating horror cliche"--my mind drifts, briefly, as I wonder what that might be. It's somehow fitting that a husband and wife (Krasnysky and Blunt) found a "quiet place" to combine their talents to such great effect.

You are welcome :)

Well, the concept of movie is great, and thats makes it even worse, that it is used in so illogical ways, and in the end become typical horror movie...

Yes, you are right... not so good but it was with great potential...

a very intriguing horror in the realities of the post-Apocalypse, which forcibly makes the audience freeze in silence with the heroes, will be scary, spectacular and terribly quiet.

It was not so scary but in some ways itteresting to see :)

I'm so hesitating to watch this movie. Because I don't like horror movie, but this is not just horror movie, so I don't know what to do !!!!

well... it is more horror than a movie :D

thanks
