A Culinary Find In The Poconos
While vacationing in the Poconos, I decided to do some exploring and came upon a healthy and very interesting place for a late lunch. Located at 60 Powerhouse Road in White Haven, the Powerhouse Eatery offered quite an eclectic selection of choices. Vacationing with my better half, we chose Ricotta & Cherries as a starter. This was basically Caputo Brother's Creamery Ricotta, Cherries, Roasted Almonds, Cherry Amaretto Syrup, Mint with Grilled Challah. To say that this platter was delicious is not doing it enough justice!
Then we moved on to our main course. I chose the Local Peach Salad. This dish included Mixed Greens, Maytag Bleu Cheese, Pickled and Fresh Peaches, Roasted Pistachios with a drizzle of Maple Peach Vinaigrette. Lori had the Fried Green Tomato BLT, which is pretty self-explanatory. Nonetheless, this sandwich was still presented in their own unique style.
While Lori stayed with our initial glass of water, I decided to try the Lion Root Beer, which is made at the Lion Brewery in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania. It is amazing how they get that draught taste in a bottle. Other items on the menu included a Rosemary and Honey Pork Chop with Cherry Sauce, Shrimp & Cavatappi Puttanesca, Lamb Gyro Burger, Chicken Paillard and Colossal Crab Meat Cocktail. As with any restaurant, the menu items change frequently. Besides, I only listed a small portion of their amazing dishes. I can tell by what was presented to us, they take pride in the presentation, as well as the tastiness, of their culinary treasures. Some of their beverages on tap include Dogfish Head Namaste White Ale, Troegs Hop Knife IPA and Lord Hobo Freebird Ale. Honey Hole Wines are usually available, as well as a Robert Mondavi Pinot Noir.
While sitting down with my food, I couldn't help but notice the interesting design to the interior of this wonderful find. This led me to ask my waiter questions about this place, which led me to learn about its history. Pictures of the interior and the history of the Powerhouse Eatery will be appearing in a future blog.
