Breaking the Hate Chain Problem

Indonesia is a large country, has many cultures and six major religions, becoming one of the characteristics that Indonesia is a country with a plural society because it is always concerned and oriented to a difference. We should all be grateful that the character of every custom and culture in Indonesia is naturally formed with a background of tolerant attitude.


This nation is often said to be multicultural, but has not experienced a complete multiculturalism, because until now there are still many conflicts, due to differences in the ideology of a group of people, provocation of media, the flow and teachings of religion are sensitive, so that always gave birth to the chain of hatred.


Hatred is not a sudden flood. Nor is the volcano suddenly erupting without any previous signs. Hatred is not something that comes suddenly. Hatred is born out of a lure or ignition so that hatred is created.


Hate is a resultant or a result of media provocation, a society that tends to be negative and the flow or religious teachings are sensitive to the existence of a difference. The chain of hatred is similar to building an empire that can at times dominate other kingdoms, which will otherwise master all the good in us.


Like the food chain, the provocative media, pronegative societies and sensitive religious schools are always intertwined with each other and form a vortex of hatred. The chain of hatred puts the difference is a threat that can at times take or seize the power of a certain ideological group.


First and foremost hate-building in hate chain, the author is a provocative media. Speaking of the media, surely the most widely flashed in the minds of many people is social media and print media. In the modern and postmodern era, the presence of information technology and social media allows anyone to become journalists and journalists albeit without a background as a journalist.


The author borrows the term Jurgen Habermas (1991) is a public space (public sphere) that is open to everyone to express opinions, upload information according to the wishes and needs. On the other hand, according to the Asociation Of Education Communications Technology (AECT), the media are all forms and channels used for the process of channeling messages.


Actually there is nothing wrong with the media, if presented is a positive information and aims to educate the nation's life. What is wrong and becomes the problem when the media presents a type of news that has a negative value and many provocative elements.


The provocative media are always spreading the news that has been charged with incitement, hate speech, and all the things that have the potential to trigger unrest and split in the community. This, of course, will be able to strengthen the chain of hatred, and undeniably provocative information into public consumption, especially a pronegative society.


The subject that occupies the second position in the hate chain is the pronegative society. Society is a number of human being which is a unity of related group fixed and have same or different interest. In the discipline of sociology we know there are two kinds of society, namely community paguyuban and community petambayan. Meanwhile, from the point of view of anthropology we are known by two types of people, namely a small society that has not been complex and a complex society.


Communities are human desires as living beings. Humans have different desires, such as social desires, self-preservation, struggling desires, desire for self-worth, passion with others, sympathy, desire to tell and a desire for freedom. But often the desire in man actually shaping the character and attitude of human be pro to the positive and pro will negative things.


People who are positive about the pros usually do not really care about a difference, be it cultural differences, tribes, customs and different faiths. But on the other hand, people who tend to be pro or side negative things often questioned a difference, for the pronegative society the difference is a thing that can never be united and coexist with each other.


A society whose character is pronegative is always too quick to conclude from a point of view only. The issue of propaganda is a delicious breakfast for people with this character. So that a positive nuance is difficult to fill this part of society. As a result this adds to the long sequence of hate chains, which then penetrate into the joints of the flow of religion and the teachings of religion
