Why atheists seem/are so rude
Why do atheists seem so rude?
Among religious people, there is a lot of muttering that their non-religious counterparts, atheists, are rude. They start flamewars online, and always seem to want to argue about religion. Why is this? Hint: it's not because their sense of morality was damaged when they lost their belief in the divine.
To explain this, we must first recognize the most vocal and militant atheists: American Atheists. In the United States, there are perfect conditions for atheists to voice their opinions: a relatively high percentage of the people are atheists or otherwise unaffiliated, and freedom of speech. The high percentage of unaffiliated people in the U.S. (22.8%) is not big enough to make any major political changes, and this creates an enormous amount of tension between religious and non-religious people. In most other countries, religion is either of much less importance, therefore not creating a lot of tension, or it is of such importance that there is no freedom of speech about the subject allowed.
You think they'd be happy to have freedom of speech!
We are. It's just that with freedom of speech also comes the freedom to insult, and that's what bothers religious people.
Atheists generally view religion as something horrible. To most of us, it is a system of oppression, the oppression of the individual, of free thought and the progress of science. Truth be told- it has been used to oppress people, and it oppresses people to this day. Most of us have read the Bible or the Qur'an, and were horrified at the awful texts, where God tells slaves to obey their masters and tells people to kill, rape and torture heretics. To pray on your knees to such an entity seems like collaboration with the enemy, the surrender to an evil overlord. This all is fine, but when we see people praise God, and convince others to live their lives under the rule of a tyrant, it makes our blood boil, and I say that to be conservative.
There are far more reasons that atheists have a hostile attitude towards people who believe. Many of us were religious when we were children, and felt lied to when we found out the truth. We feel angry for our fellow atheists who don't have the right to speak freely about their lack of belief. When we speak out about this, we tend to get death threats. We feel superior to non-religious people, as the atheist side has never lost a debate. We're afraid to lose our rights to a religious majority.
So what happens now?
We keep debating. Even though it offends some people, that doesn't weigh up to the many good things that follow the debate. It's good for cultural progress. It's important for the liberation of countries that are still ruled under Shariah law. It educates people, teaches them to think for themselves, whatever side they might take. As long as this debate stays peaceful, we should encourage people to take part in it. Let's hope someday, we might have peace.

Great post. It doesn't seem like you are getting the likes it deserves though. Have you checked out the upvote communities? You should check out steemengine. or steemfollower.com.
Well, I would, but I don't want a dead followerbase. I want people to like/upvote my content because they want to, and because they like the content, not because they earn points in some system. It makes for a very dead and disloyal system.
Agreed. Most of the people who support religion don't take the time to view and understand others as there are more than 4000 and always think their own is the only right one. I have read both the bible and the quran and can back you up on this facts. The bible even encouraged slave masters to beat their slaves and if they were to rise by the second day it's all okay. A child when born is a pure being which is later given names, religions and rules for it to defend for their entire lives and not question. I wouldn't say im hostile towards anyone or any religion but this is food for thought. Nice article.
Thank you for the support! Were you once religious? How do you look back on that time?

How can someone really be an atheist if they hate a God that they claim does not exist? Nobody hates Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy.
Atheists tend to fall into several groups. Some don't believe in God but they have no hostility towards anyone who believes in anything.
Another group of atheists are those who hate God because they don't like how He runs his universe. Or because they know that God hates their sin and they love their sin.
Others are fools that act superior because they don't believe in God. Actually, among atheists, I prefer the arrogant, hateful, and condescending atheists because they make themselves and their beliefs unattractive.
There are no atheists who 'hate' God. You cannot hate something that you don't believe exists. So in fact, they can't be atheists if they hate God. You can only be an atheist if you don't believe God EXISTS. Like, at all.
You're probably used to the line of thinking that God does exist, and can't comprehend God not existing. The logical choice then would be to think that atheists hate God.
Nobody stops believing in God because they 'want to sin'. A lot of atheists are against the religious' preaching against sin. When you don't believe in Allah (and aren't vegetarian/vegan) there's no reason not to eat pork. It's the same for us with sin. Why would we not have as much fun as we possibly could in life, whilst it hurts none? The religious aren't hurt by our sin at all, but act like they are nonetheless.
Furthermore, we don't believe in sin. This means: there is nobody 'up there', so nobody is hurt by us having sex before marriage.
