Almost Bride-to-be: What's your (sur)name?
As I look back and go through the photos of my ex-fiancee and me, and some of my wedding notes preparations and the bride-to-be notebook I have been wondering whether we tend to take our partner's last name or not.
In 2016 I was ready to change my surname to Sarah A. Wessen and give up my maiden name. If I had the choice today though, I would have to think about it. In the end, my last name (and my first name) define who I am. The question is: why do we choose to change it and how do we perceive that?
I thought it would be fascinating sharing with you a video about our perception:
So, what was your choice? Have you decided to stick to your maiden name or did you go the traditional way or.... maybe you have combined both last names with a hyphenating?
Some women for purely practical reasons decide to change their surnames (easier pronunciation, showing the commitment, etc.) and some of them stick to their maiden names and try to present the relationship as a combination of two individual beings who decide to go into the marriage together.
What about men taking their wives' last names?
What's your thought on that and what's your story?
