Seeing as how GitHub is a closed-source platform, does that make it the Apple of the OSS world?

Jesus christ. I want to ask how you are even upvoted, but this is just fucking ridiculous.

I'm all for opensource, but please go to /r/foss or something with this hippie bullcrap. Just because something is commercial, proprietary, closed-source doesn't mean it's evil or neccessarily bad for the open-source community.

I mean, Github is probably one of the best things that have happened to the opensource community, but I can see how you want to destroy that with you communist GPL bullshit.

Additionally, just because I'm subscribed to /r/linux, doesn't automatically make me a "FOSS advocate", or a "GNU activist", or whatever the hell ridicilous words you come up with.

Of course not, but if it is very easy to tell if the software is good or bad if the software is free. If it isn't free you can't tell as easily if the software is good or bad. Non-Free software has a track record of happening to be bad for the user. It makes sense to prefer free software over non-free software.

And freeware hasn't?

You are full of crap.

You could also make the case that extremely few, if any, FOSS softwares are grade-A with regards to quality.

All of you need to grow up, money is a good thing, especially for something like software. It creates incentive, much more so than good-will.

Freeware is proprietary software.

What is you metric for measuring software quality?

I'm a Capitalist. I think money is a good thing, but it shouldn't come at the expense of freedom.

PutinBitchBot037 says

Lol. Freedom. You do know that you are completely free to write whatever code you want right? You dont sound like a capitalist to me. You sound like a diehard socialist. "People wont give me their sourcecode therefore they take away my freedoms"

I didn't know that the Digital Millennium Copyright Act was repealed so I had the right to reverse engineer again.

You dont sound like a capitalist to me. You sound like a diehard socialist.

Could you elaborate on why?

My metric for quality is usability. Blender and Kdevelop comes very close, but I cant even think of another example that even competes with proprietary alternatives (photoshop, after effects etc)
