YEMA CAKE for your sweet tooth - NO Bake Cake

Making your favorite cakes is now easy because of cake mixes that can be bought at any supermarket. You can try the Maya brand in this recipe or any other brand of yellow cake mix available at the supermarket. I have tried to make Yema cake using the Maya butter cake mix and Betty Crocker butter pecan cake mix. I would say, I like the betty crocker more because it is really moist and delicious adds to its pecan flavor. Others use Maya Pancake Mix but I have not tried it, maybe next time I will try to use pancake mix.

Yema cake is creamy and delicious like custard cake with cheese on top. It is easy to make that you can do at home without using the oven. This cake is great for any occasion and also good for business venture while at home. Yema cake is one of the favorite and became popular all over Metro Manila.

For Yema Cake

  • Just follow the instructions at the back of Yellow Cake Mix.
  • In a baking pan or Llanera, spread butter or vegetable oil before putting the mixture.
  • Cover with foil and steam for 30mins or insert a toothpick at the center of the cake, if the toothpick comes out clean then it's ready.
  • Remove from steamer and let it cool
  • Slice the Cake in half horizontally. Set aside

For Yema Glaze

  • 1 can Condensed Milk

  • 1/2 cup Evaporated Milk

  • 6 Large Egg yolks

  • 1/4 TSP Vanilla

  • Grated Cheese for toppings

  • In a stainless steel, combine the condensed milk, evaporated milk and the egg yolks. Heat the milk mixture to the bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water for about 40 minutes or until the mixture becomes thick and spreadable. turn off the heat if you reach your desired thickness, add the vanilla and stir until well combined.

*You can put directly the pan with milk mixture to the stove in a low heat and stir continuously until the mixture becomes thick.

Prepare the Cake

  • Spread some yema frosting or glaze on top of the halved cake.
  • Put the other half of the cake and spread the remaining glaze over the whole cake.
  • Sprinkle grated cheese on the top of the cake
  • Refrigerate
  • Serve and Enjoy!
