Godzilla : King of the monster Movie Review
I think this film deserves a 9/10. The visual effects, sound design, soundtrack, acting, cinematography and etc., are all glorious and make the film simply magnificent. The characters might feel one dimensional but the way they execute their characters is enough to keep you engaged. Their are many majestic shots in the movie that are eye candy and a pleasure to behold to the audience.
I really love the fact that this movie pays a lot of homage to the classic Godzilla movies such as its soundtrack composed my Bear Mccreary inspired by the late Akira Ifukube, or its throwback characters like Rodan, Mothra, and the space emperor himself King Ghidorah. My only concerns however is this movie felt rushed and too many plot twists.
In the beginning in the film, eco-terriosts come out of nowhere to take the Orca device and use it for his own intentions and apparently towards the middle of the film it turns out Emma Russel played by Vera Farmiga was the one who contacted them in the first place so I wished that aspect was explored a little bit more. Towards the middle to the film there was a scene which was cut out to the audience which was seeing Washington all in ruin when we didn't get see the whole destruction take place.
I also wished the character Ishiro Seriwaza played by Ken Wanatabe was explored more before he had to sacrifice himself to save Godzilla. At one point in the film we get introduced to the Oxygen Destroyer which gets used to kill any creature withen its radius but we unfortunately don't get to see how that device was constructed or how it functions see I wished they could have gotten more in debt with it.
But regardless of it flaws, it has many good aspects that I feel shouldn't be overshadowed by the bad aspects of the film. so I overall thought this film was awesome and is now one of my all time favorite films or if not favorite Godzilla films to date. What I find unfortunate however is how critics judge this movie without any talent or knowledge on how to critique a film and acknowledge it for what it is and tend to be very biased against films like these.
What I found common among critics who judge this film is they focus too much on the bad aspects of the film which is the story rather than the good aspects like as stated above. I also found it common for them to focus to much on the human characters when it says on the title of the film "Godzilla" implying that the main characters of this film are the monsters and not the humans.
But what I find amusing is how they criticize this film for its story but hardly criticize other films for their stories such as most Marvel movies which mostly involves bad guys and superheroes saving the day or John Wick which is basically about a guy trying to save a lost puppy and yet critics gave those films from 80 to a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
But other than that, I thank all the studios and workers involved in this beautiful film for their hard work and hope they keep going with the Monsterverse while at the same time remembering that fans like myself are really thankful for what they did and provided for us which was this magnificent film.
