Reviewing Steem Engine tools by @cadawg

in #realityhubs5 years ago

The "Steem Engine tools" created by @cadawg are very useful for a wide range of uses and can be benificial to all users of Steem-Engine Tribes.

@cadawg is a relatively new developer on the block, not that he's had no tools before this, but they have had a much lesser reach. @cadawg is using the new tribes as a way to get his software out there, as this is a relatively new thing, there are many spaces for potential solutions. @cadawg shows promise that he will keep this updated as he has already added significantly more features over the past few days. I don't see him slowing his pace down very soon. His serivces fill a new space, they currently help with both delegations and markets.

Market Tools

As you probably know, the steem engine market limits the number of orders you can see. This can be useful for a quick glimpse at the market, but what if you want to really look at the entire market, well then his tools are for you. Here is a shot of the RealityHubs Market as of now:

Obviously, on this page you can't see much of the market either, but @cadawg has decided that pagination is the correct way to go about it. If you want to increase the page length, you can do so, but I like just 10 results as it keeps the market relatively clear and easy to see.

One additional feature of this market page which is not seen currently on the RealityHubs market page is the bot shower. If we go to The PAL market viewer we can see that some accounts are flagged out as bots:

We can clearly see that the lowest seller is a bot and that they are buying as well. This is a useful feature as I believe it helps to improve transparency, which he mentions in the market tools post

He also made calculators for the markets, which, in my opinion, help you to easier bulk sell or buy a token.

You must pick a symbol to begin, which is fair enough, as just asking if there are tokens at x price seems relatively useless, but maybe it could be useful?

I've chosen reality hubs (of course!), and now I can use the calculators. For example, did you know that selling 10k RHB right now would net you 16.1957 STEEM at an average price of 0.0016 (nice and round. YAY!) Buying 10k would cost you 23.4462 STEEM at an average price of 0.0023, which is a fair difference.

Now, one calculator that I'm a little sceptical of (for uses) is the market movements calculator. It will tell you how much it will cost to shift the market. I don't personally like this calculator because I believe it could be used to manipulate the markets. If it were my choice, I would remove this right now.

We can see that it would take 237897.53... RHB to drop the market to 0.001, which shows there is a strong demand for reality hubs tokens at their current prices. Obviously, people believe in this platform.

To raise the selling price to 0.15, it would take the purchase of 151k Realityhubs, which shows we have rather strong sell walls. So it doesn't look like the price will be going upwards for a while.

After using this tool to come out with those stats, it's really quite interesting and maybe an okay tool. I guess only time will tell.

Delegation Tools

Wow. Impressive! I just loaded the page and already saw a mistake, this is probably due to the fact that the charts are probably based of the same code and I'd hope that @cadawg will now fix this as I've pointed it out.

Anyway, on with this tool. It was certainly very popular and his first post even got resteemed by aggroed, the creator of steem-engine.

I can see that this tool would be useful to anyone as there was previously no way to check delegations. I also see that he included an own SP feature, which can be used by owners to share out delegation rewards whilst factoring in their own stake. This functionality took significantly longer to execute which is kind of annoying.

I used this query

You can see this feature allows you to see how to split rewards between delegators, which I'm sure must make owners of these services lives easier.

You can also see undelegations, but I found this less interesting. Noticed another thing, it should say "In" I think, instead of "ago", so that's something to fix @cadawg!

This is useful though to users who are waiting for their delegations to be returned, as they will want to know when they can start voting with that stake/redelegate that stake out. So it's certainly useful.

1 Dislike

All the pages have this ominous blue bar, mentioned by @mermaidvampire here, which I find rather annoying as it just gets in the way. I guess though he wants to make some money from his work, and it's nicer than a poke in the eye (or adverts/subscriptions). But it just hurts the flow of the page in my opinion. I did ask @cadawg how many donations he got due to that bar.

He said he got nothing, so I really don't see the point of this silly bar.

Conclusion

I believe that @cadawg's tools are a valuable service provided to the community, and apart from the few aforementioned issues and changes I'd like, I'd say it's a pretty good set of tools. Thanks @cadawg

Damn, some issues to fix. I'll fix them right now. Thanks, @dpd for your review!

Maybe be a bit nicer to the ominous blue bar in future and slip some change in it? =)

Thanks,

Hi @dpd, thanks for using @steemfinex, as you know (and as I posted on @steemfinex), there is steem-engine account history api delay :( so you transfer will be processed later. Thanks.
