Why I Stopped Vlogging
This is a story about one of those times where you just get in over your head.
I enjoy watching daily vlogs. I like being able to watch people I like and get that feeling of hanging out with them on a daily basis. I knew it would be a lot of hard work, but holy crap - this is a whole new level of hard work. I would spend the entire day carrying one of these around:
These things get kinda heavy after awhile.
I would try to shoot everything: work, fun, riding around on my hoverboard, whatever I could. I didn't really care about the weird looks people would give me, I was having fun...until it came to editing time. When it came time to edit, I'd sit down after the day was done, usually around 8 or 9pm and spend the next 8-9 hours editing that day's footage. The videos were about 6-13 minutes - not too bad for a day's worth of shooting. Then the worst part came - waiting for the compression to finish. The compression took HOURS to finish. But if I wanted it to go up on YouTube every day at the right time, I'd have to wait for it to finish and then upload it. This was horrible for my sleep schedule and I got burned out fast. And by that I mean, I only did 3 videos. On the last day of shooting, I didn't even edit.
But there was a bigger reason why I stopped vlogging.
The main reason I stopped vlogging was really because I realized that the content I was making just wasn't interesting. I mean, I don't know if anyone finds my Steemit posts interesting too, but there's a lot less time put into that right now, so that doesn't really matter to me at this juncture. If I was going to be putting that much time into making YouTube videos, I didn't want to be putting out content that wasn't exciting or interesting. Instead, I'm looking for something else - and idea that will not just be exciting, but original and fun to make. I want to find something that I can do weekly or twice a week that really has some passion behind it. If that's something you want to help support me in, then you can subscribe to see it first. To be honest, I don't really know what the content will be, but when I finally make it, I want it to be really good.
If you're interested in checking out the vlogs (what little of them there are), here's a teaser video to help you decide. If you want to subscribe, check out YouTube.com/jordanthurt
