3D Scanning for Real Estate. What is the market?
I came across the 3D scanning company Matterport, which is marketing toward Real Estate media companies on Facebook. It is an interesting technology from the surface, so I took a deeper look yesterday.
My initial feeling is that this is probably not the best fit for most residential Real Estate sales media. It really does seem to provide a unique and detailed view of the property, but it isn't as much of a story telling tool nor can I imagine much artistic license as a regular camera.
Rentals and commercial properties is where I see real value in this type of technology. I think the ability to 3D scan a commercial building and display it as a walk through would be very useful for office buildings or manufacturing and distributions centers.
It is definitely something to keep an eye on. I'm sure someone will come up with an interesting way to use this system, but usually these kinds of tech seem to sort of stutter at least in the real estate media business.
What do you think? Have you seen any interesting use cases where 3D scanning has been implemented in marketing real estate?

World War 3 is FPS game.
Maps are real locations, for example Warsaw.
Big part of buildings was 3D scanned.
It is becoming almost common. As someone that does some 3d work, I can see the value of scanning.
