The oppression of black people in the USA today
The systematic persecution of African-Americans is profoundly ingrained in American culture. In an immigrant-heavy country, Africans were forcibly brought in and held as slaves for 150 years. Although racism affects people of all races, racism against black people is "justified" by a racist ideology originating from enslavement and the century-old Jim Crow apartheid system, which maintains that black people are inferior to whites. Though it is now disguised, it underpins the horrifying disparities in education, employment, housing, healthcare, and poverty levels that exist between black and white Americans.
