Aleksa's Book Review: White Fragility

What I needed was a book on racism written by a white woman. Only half joking, of course - a white savior she is certainly not - as she'll say many times in the book. But it's weird to hear all of these ideas without the background pounding brought by the ubiquitous backstory of single-parent households and obesity that punctuates these books.

In any case, Ms. Diangelo lets us know exactly how difficult it is for her as a diversity and antiracism consultant to explain to people exactly how racist they are without their guard going up - the eponymous term of white fragility. However, this is troubling as anything other than the absolute dedication toward inter-race equity is termed racism and defense of that mental model is white fragility.

This sets the argument up in such a way that Ms. Diangelo can always keep helping you do work on the question of racism, which just happens to coincide with her getting more book deals and consulting fees. Being white herself, I opted to respect her opinions toward antiracism and now wish she doesn't gain a dime, in the goal of racial equity.

Do your part, Robin.
