Under the 'anti-discrimination student movement' banner, job-seeking students blocked the Shahbagh intersection on Sunday afternoon.
Students blocked several important roads in Dhaka's capital from 3 pm to 7 pm. They are referring to this phase of the movement as the 'Bangla Blockade'.
This evening, one of the organizers of the movement, Dhaka University student Nahid Islam said, 'Blockade will continue across the country from 3:30 pm tomorrow.'
He said, 'Our strike will continue indefinitely. Our blockade program will continue across the country and at various points. We have blocked from Shahbagh to Karwan Bazar today. Tomorrow's blockade will cross Farmgate.'
This blockade program will spread more widely in the coming days. We have managed to attract the attention of the whole nation with our movement. Our Prime Minister also spoke about this. Earlier, the Prime Minister himself stood in Parliament and ruled in favor of cancelling the quota. We are hopeful that this time too he will give us the quota solution for public opinion on behalf of the students," he added.
Nahid Islam also said, 'The quota was canceled in 2018 and after 6 years the quota is coming back. Students have their backs against the wall. We will return home and to class after claiming. Either the quota will be removed from this movement, or else it must be declared by the country of quota holders.'
Apart from Dhaka, students of Jahangirnagar University in Savar blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway, and students of Comilla University blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
Rajshahi University (Rabi) students have announced to block of the railway track tomorrow as part of a Bengali blockade.
Aman Ullah Khan, the coordinator of Rabi's anti-quota movement, told The Daily Star, "We are announcing a boycott of all class examinations from tomorrow and there will be a blockade of railways from tomorrow."
