Coinbase CEO Assures Customers They Won't Have To Share Data With IRS
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong wrote an open letter to his customers, reassuring them that he would not share their data with the IRS.
In the letter, Armstrong said Coinbase is working with regulators to ensure they comply with tax laws, but he pointed out that it's not as simple as asking for your name, address, and phone number.
We want to make sure you know what we do, why we do it and what information we provide, Armstrong wrote in his letter. We will not provide government agencies with user purchase history or transaction data.
Armstrong also told customers that Coinbase does not have access to their private keys and can only provide basic user data when required by law.
