The term Golfer's elbow is also called or medial epicondylitis s conditions of tendinosis which arise due to injuries and it affects the tendon, it's present in the medial common flexor tendon on the inside of the elbow. It has similarities with tennis elbow it affected the lateral epicondyle of the elbow.

How it appeared the conditions of tindinopathy existing due to excessive use of arm, golfing , bending or lifting or injury as like in "pitcher's elbow".

Most common Symptoms of golfer's elbow are as follows.

  • The painful situation or tender especially on inner side of elbow.

  • The probably difficulties in lifting or twisting.

  • The fatigue or weakness in forearm

  • The feeling of numbness especially in the fingers regions.

Hence there are 4 stages.

Acute Stage (the time frame of 0-72 hours)

In this situation there is suddenly painful condition exists along with associated inflammation, it might be due to injuries. The affected area also shows the sign of redness.

Subacute Stage (the time range from 72 hours-2 weeks)
In this case starting appearance after 72 hours and stiffness is there and making it tough to perform daily life activities. As the mobility is very limited in the forearm region.

Chronic Stage (more than 2 weeks)
The pain my continued and it appeared after two week of injury and obviously it connected with muscle weakness and holding capacity is reduced with time due to tenderness.

Severe or Advanced Stage

It shows the sign of continuous severe pain and disability is there as the nerve function is disturbed and sometimes leads towards permanent damage of nerve or tendon.

The most common Types of Golfer's Elbow

Mild

As the name predicted there is less pain and mild inflammation in the affected area of elbow joints.

Mild to Moderate

In this case the stiffness or tenderness is there while performing daily life activities and appears mostly in elbow joints.

Moderate to Severe

As it become chronic and there is severe pain and making tough to do daily life activities.

The diagnosis

The physical examination plays important role doctor try to rule it out by physical examination and knowing the previous history of patients.

Hence x-ray, MRI and ultrasound can also be done to study at better level.

Different physiotherapy test are useful which are as follows.

Cozen's Test
Medial Epicondylitis Test
Maudsley's Test
Grip Strength Test
Elbow Flexion Test

Cozen's Test
In this case the patient kept standing with the elbow keeping it extended and the doctor applied resistance while patient will try to flex the elbow against the applied resistance. If the pain exists it shows the positive test.

Maudsley's Test

In this case patient has to extension of elbow and doctor applied resistance and if the pain exists it shows positive signs of golfers elbow.

Few exercises are as follows.

I found these exercises very effective overall it was informative to learn something new I got knowledge about the golfers elbow.

Its all about my today's post.

I would love to invite @m-fdo, @jannat12 and @suboohi to take part in the Challenge.

Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.

Observations

Task 1 (2.8/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about golfer's elbow, its symptoms, causes, types and it's stages but didn't add the tissue damage types like tendonsis, tendinitis and tendon rupture. A bit more depth require to complete the answer. I appreciate your effort.

Task 2 (2.7/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination, history taking, and investigations. That's good you add special tests and also explanation of special tests. But it would be better to add explanation of investigations, also NCS & EMG test to assess the nerve involvement. Great.

Task 3 (3.8/4)
You try the ball squeezing, forearm supination & pronation, and wrist flexors stretch. You did the ball squeezing, forearm supination & pronation and wrist flexors stretch correctly. But it would be better to hold the stretch for 5 to 10 seconds for effective results. Always remember to apply heat pack in chronic condition and ice pack in acute condition before performing exercises to relax the muscles and reduce stiffness. I appreciate your efforts.

Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from golfer's elbow or any type of elbow issue. Thank you.
