Human Content is Time Bound

in #psychology8 years ago

The psychology of human nature is intriguing that it never fails to show us we can learn something new every day. It is extremely complex on one end and so simplistic on the other, creating a conflicting relationship among what we want, need, desire and aspire – time bound.

One fact is that the environment and nature around is constantly changing, pushing us into limits of craving for things and desiring more than we have. That is why we never get satisfied with our present conditions and focus on doing things that will allow us the opportunities to strive further. For a certain time, our goals might seem achieved but we start looking for the next step, altering or intensifying our life plans. Our nature lies in adjusting to the quick reality of situations and finding mechanisms to further our goals and dreams, finding pieces that fit together to make our dreams come true. It is not that we are ungrateful or unappreciative of what we currently have, but as human nature, we crave for more. It never remains content. It’s like climbing a mountain, we reach one step and then want to go further to the very top, to see the whole view, feel what it’s like to be on top. It is the satisfaction and pleasure with our self-esteem that makes us reach higher, to see what’s worthy of life at the end.

I don’t think there is an ultimate goal of desire or a point where our satisfaction is fulfilled. The sweet temptation will always push us more to see what is out there and force us to come up with plans to achieve it. We have an anxious feeling that whatever is out there might be much better than what we already have and living with that anxious feeling becomes too much of a pain sometimes. It is important to keep striving, to see where our dreams take us and to understand the potential in our inner self. This would give meaning to one’s life while giving purpose to another. It does not end with “happiness” and “satisfaction” as one ultimate goal because those two feelings can be conflicting sometimes. We might be happy without feeling completely satisfied, while we might be satisfied with something that doesn’t bring us true happiness.

The point is, humans can never be content with what they have or the current situation. It’s time bound and will eventually change its courses. So do not feel bad for wanting more or not being satisfied. Our brain is wired in this way to continuously feel and want more. So get out there and keep reaching higher, one step at a time.
