What Causes Anger in Children?

in #psychology7 years ago

Parents need to be well informed and recognize closely what is causing these disruptive angry behaviors. There are many causes and triggers that lead to anger in children. Parents need to be on high alert and distinguish any recent drastic circumstances in the child’s life that could cause them to act out. These reasons could be parental divorce, relocation, promises unmet; demands not met or failed expectations.

Angry behavior can lead children to feelings of frustrations, irritation and temper tantrums. A child can often feel frustrated with academic work at school and feel angry. When expectations are set too high, and they constantly keep failing such as in math grades, they often feel angry. Failed expectations, such as their need for parents to buy them a new toy can lead to angry behavior. Another cause for anger is irritation, such as when they are playing an activity and something keeps irritating and interrupting them during their play time. This can lead to anger related behavior.

Abuse is a major cause of an anger provoking situation. When a child is abused verbally or physically, this almost always leaves scars which can often create anger boiling up inside them. Below are a few reasons why children often get angry.

Some Reasons why children can get angry:

• Death in the Family
• Parents’ divorce
• Failed expectations
• Demands not met
• Promises broken
• Community violence
• Natural disaster
• Social rejection
• Too much stress
• Academic failure
• Fear
• Victim of Abuse – Verbal, Sexual, Physical or Psychological
