Tumor are of 2 types

*Benign
*Malignant

Benign: This is not likely to occur after removal.

Malignant: Likely to occur after removal and harmful it is difficult to treat and can become a threat to life.

Common site of the tumor is uterus, brain is the next site to the uterus.
Tumors account for a relatively proportion of neurological disease

Tumors can be encapsulated as well as infiltrating

Encapsulated: Develops as a distinct entity in the brain Almost always benign. Influence the function of the brain by exerting pressure on the surrounding tissue.

Infiltrating:- They grow diffusely through surrounding tissue

Note: Brain tumors are mostly infiltrating and Malignant

Sign and symptoms of Brain Tumor:- Headache, Vomiting, Swelling of the optic disk, Slowing of the heart rate(Bradycardia), Double vision(diplopia), general weakness, unsteadiness, epilepsy, personality changes, functional impairment to the function of the brain where tumor is located.

Blocking of CSF(cerebrospinal fluid) due to tumor leads to HYDROCEPHALY- A TYPE OF MENTAL RETARETARDATION.GNOSIS- CT Scan( Computerized tomography scan) MRI( Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

TREATMENT- The most straightforward treatment of brain tumor is surgery. Radiation therapy is useful for treating certain types of tumors. Chemotherapy has not yet been very successful in the treatment of brain tumors , partly because of the difficulty of getting drugs to pass the blood-brain barrier and enter the tumor.
