Thoughtful post. My understanding is expanded consciousness is needed. Self realization. I would say it goes further than "what precisely is it that, outside of our own families, we care about." What do we care about beyond the satisfaction of our temporary material body. Our temporary material mind and senses?
Yes I would agree. However, in that realisation I would say there needs to be more room for the awareness of others.
