RE: What is Belief?

in #psychology7 years ago

We don't need to believe in truth, it is already here. So really, there is no need to believe anything. It just alters the way we see the world, we lose clarity from our beliefs.

To me, when spiritual teachers say "let go" in my mind, they refer to beliefs. When we let go of our beliefs it's like letting go of a huge burden we carry with us everywhere we go.

That doesn't mean it's easy to do, some beliefs we've been carrying around most of our lives.

Yup, pretty much. But those that are self-identified as so-called "spiritual", what does that word even mean when they use it? Much of the time they are referencing various beliefs too :P

Oh undoubtedly, I personally follow advaita teachers like Spira and Adyashanti because they just tell people to look for themselves, to take a hard look at the current beliefs we have and find out why we believe. Is it because of something we've found in our experience?

Most of these teachings are extremely repetitive because there's only so many ways to say the same thing, they're still great reminders, so I use them before meditation practices.

I've come across my fair share of "spiritual teachers" pushing their own agendas
