What Do Dreams Really Mean?

in #psychology7 years ago

We all dream every night, whether we remember or not (most of the time not). But what do these dreams mean? There is a lot of scientific research into discovering if our dreams really contain meaning, or are just a bunch of randomized unconscious thoughts.

Here are 5 common dreams and the symbolism behind them:

1- Water:

Water represents our emotions and our unconscious minds. So if your dream contains water and different levels of clarity of that water (clear, cloudy, calm, rough) that represents how effectively you are managing your emotions.

2- Vehicles:

Different vehicles on our dreams can represent what direction we feel our life is going in. Vehicles also represent how much control we feel we have in where we go in life. This can give us the power to make a change, or envision ourselves reaching our destination.

3- People:

People in dreams often represent different aspects of the self, and certain characteristics that may need to be developed. Dreaming about specific people tends to represent relationship and interpersonal issues that need to be worked through. When we dream of a lover, this frequently symbolizes an aspect of ourselves, in which we feel detached.

4- Death:

You would think that dreaming of death would come along with negative emotions right? Well actually death represents a dramatic change happening for the dreamer. You can see it as one door closes so another can open.

5- Nudity:

Nudity is associated with vulnerability, and may manifest itself through dreams. We've all had those dreams where we are standing in front of the class naked, giving a speech right? Classic.

Hope this was interesting for you guys and may give you a better understanding of what your dreams represent!

I have this reoccurring wave/water dreams, where I am swimming in an extremely rough sea, always near a beach. The waves sometimes reach up to 30, maybe 50 meters! The funny thing is: I am having quite a lot of fun, trying to avoid these waves. I feel a little bit intimidated by them, but even more so positive excitement.
Interesting post.

Dreams truly can teach us something of oneself. Great post.

Dreams are your body's way of mentally prepare itself for something your subconscious sees coming in the future. Humans are meant to socialize with each other, this is why we dream about other people so often whether you know the person or not, compared to having dreams alone.
