Male Chauvinism -- Is It A Social Evil Or Just A Mentality ??

             

There are many social differences exists in the society we're living currently. Some are bearable and some are unbearable. But some are very illogical and exists just because it was existing in the past times. One of those mentality or social evil is : Male Chauvinism.

What is Male Chauvinism?

As per Google, Male Chauvinism means: a belief that men are most intelligent and superior than women.

Simply speaking, just because of a mentality which existed 100 years ago, most of the people still believes in Male Chauvinism. Although, it is a new concept but the core mindset about this concept goes way back. 

If we talk about recent times, Male Chauvinism exists in abundance. We can easily see men around ourselves showing their superiority over women. Whatever the area of work, male chauvinism exits for sure. 

Last I saw, a lady couldn't get promotion in her office just because of her gender, because the boss was a male and being a male chauvinist himself, he wanted to promote a man for the job. Although a lot of hard work had been done by that lady, but still she never get the opportunity to reap the benefits of her hard work. 

This is just one example. I have many examples which can prove that male chauvinism has become just more than a old mentality. 

Sometimes Male Chauvinism gives birth to other social evils like Sexual Harassment, Sexism, Partiality For Choosing Right Man For The Right Job.  Basically, Male chauvinist believes that they are superior to women at every aspect, whether it is work, intelligence or study. 

Examples of Male Chauvinism:

• Threatening a women by showing her physical dominance.
• Talking down a woman by interrupting her continuously.
• Excluding women when it comes to a major decision making.
• Not trusting the skills of Women, whether it is driving, teaching, cooking, rafting, learning, etc.
• Disrespecting a woman in front of a crowd to show your own dominance.

                         

I believe, male chauvinism has become more than just a mentality. It has its roots deep in our society. And if we talk about under-developed countries, the status of women in those countries are sad enough. They don't get the proper education because male in their society don't allow them to study. Women aren't able to choose their career because society don't allow them to purse their careers. Marriage at very low age is very common in under-developed countries because of mass male chauvinist thinking prevailing for a long time. 

How Male Chauvinism could be corrected?

Well, the simple answer would be Education and Awareness. 

Educate people about the evils of this mentality and showing them the positive effects of women empowerment can do a lot of good. 

Spreading awareness about this issue can be really helpful. As a blogger, writer or vlogger, everyone can contribute something to curb this mentality and bring about a positive change in the society.
