Burnout Syndrome

in #psychology7 years ago (edited)

Burnout Syndrome as symptomatic response to work stress that appears in professions with high workload and responsibility, and that is manifested in health professions, is hamful both personally employed in psychiatric symptoms involved, and a social level for damage which may result in patient care. The presence of the Syndrome in the hospitals services at different locations of Spain and with special presence in the emergencies, demonstrates the need for a prevalence study indicating the status of the current national problems in these services, as determining the presence of the Syndrome in the other medical staff.
We will determine the prevalence of the Burnout Syndrome in the National Health System in Spain, and we will identify the emergencies as a professional area of highest risk
The proposed study will be descriptive cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of the Syndrome. The selection of subjects that form part of the sample will take place at random (probability) between health professional services in order to make a methodological description of the current situation and determine the professional emergency area as vulnerable based on their characteristics. To identify the presence of the Syndrome we will use MBI Maslach Burnout Inventory (1986), once the strengths and weaknesses in the assessment instrument will be analyzed. Also we will use the Symptom Check List SCL-90-Revised (2002) to complement the results of MBI, after reviewing an analysis of their behavior in a clinical sample.

burnout is not only manifested in health professions.

This study project is aimed at the health professions but as you say burnout appears in many professions, especially those that require constant contact with people:

"Although initially conceived as a specific syndrome of the service sector, mainly health care, it was subsequently found to be extended to other sectors. There are professions that are characterized by great responsibility, continuous and direct treatment with other people, the high volume of work, job insecurity and psychological resistance required by the profession. The result is the presence of greater vulnerability to being related to this syndrome, creating emotional problems such as impotence, disappointment, irritation, apathy, negativity, skepticism and a feeling of professional failure." By the way, thanks for the comment! :)
