Millionaire Shortcuts 6 of 42: Your memories can destroy you
" To forget is the secret of eternal youth. One grows old only through memory. There's much too little forgetting .”
Quote by Eric Remarque about how some experiences and memories makes us older. What you should take from this is that it is important to put bad experiences and memories behind you. Do not carry this with you through your life.
You have probably met people looking ten years younger than their real age, full of life, energy and with a positive outlook in life. Similarly, you have met those that are the opposite, tired, lifeless eyes, no energy and just moving through life because they have no other choice. This is a result of what those bad experiences will do to you, wear you down. It affects not only your thoughts, but also your body, it will break you down both mentally and physically.
Take wisdom of negative events, they are experiences you take with you in life, but get away from them as fast as you can and forget them. Nothing good will come from dwelling too much on them. It has already happened, maybe you could have done something different or maybe what happened just had to go that way. Do what you must to put it behind you, talk about it, confront the problem and get done with it. Do not let your thoughts be a burden in your life.
You often hear about people with luggage, people carrying bad experiences with them in life, do not become this person. This is especially a problem in romance and relationships where people carry their bad experiences into a new relationship, how they were mistreated and everything the other partner did wrong. Do not be someone full of bitterness and hate from earlier experiences, this only pulls you under and makes you an old and bitter person.

I had a similar box once upon a time! Labeled 'To the memory of the memory of Lisa Yates! Do not open!' This contained a lot of broken memories of many a bad experience! ... Mostly bad relationships! I never dated a Lisa Yates, but if you've ever watched 'Red Dwarf' it will make perfect sense! I eventually burned the box including all it's contents! ... It's amazing how powerful the mind can be if you hurt and want to forget! You will eventually repress those memories but at a cost! You'll also end up forgetting the lessons you learned from the experiences too. Life has a tendency of repeating itself later on down the line. So if you can learn to live with a bad memory and move on, you'll be a lot stronger for it! ... It took me 10 years to remember what was in that box and for a long time part of me was broken and i didn't know how to fix it! I am glad that i remember now as i am older and wiser and could process the experiences better. Just wanted to share my view as it is better to live as a whole person than only half a person and not know why. Great post though aether :)
