The church & the providence: Through your will and power, they did everything that you had already decided should be done. Acts 4:28
The Book of Acts tells of the times of the early Church, a time when the communion of believers was manifested through the gifts of the Spirit, but also a time when persecution of the Church hit the first believers in Jesus hard. And during these moments of need and great changes, the providence or the eternal prudence of God played a fundamental role in the development of the church, because Jesus with great wisdom had already told his disciples: "Look at the birds. They don't plant, harvest, or gather the harvest into barns. Yet, your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you worth more than they?" Matthew 6:26.
This is why the disciples never lost faith in Jesus and knew that despite living in a world given over to sin, God would decide in favor of the Church and its saints.
And the Book of Acts relates that after the miracle of Pentecost and the healing of a paralytic at the entrance to the temple of Jerusalem, the first persecution against the Church broke out. The Book of Acts relates that Peter and John were arrested for speaking about the resurrection of Jesus, something that greatly upset the Sanhedrin. But since they had no charges against the disciples, the members of the Sanhedrin threatened the disciples, and then they released them.
Once released, the Bible relates that the disciples gathered together and prayed to God and his divine providence with these words:
"In this city Herod and Pontius Pilate made plans together with non-Jewish people and the people of Israel. They made plans against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. Through your will and power, they did everything that you had already decided should be done" Acts 4:27-28.
The disciples knew that what was happening at that moment was the fulfillment of many of the ancient prophecies announced since ancient times in the Old Testament, and that the mission and destiny of the Church was already determined by God's plan. That is why the disciples ended their prayer by putting their lives in the hands of God, and thus the Bible relates that the Holy Spirit descended upon them again and they were blessed.
