PROVERB OF THE DAY | AFRICAN PROVERB

We need to be careful in life, in other to avoid costly mistakes. This is because most of our actions make us cross the Rubicon( to be irrevocably committed). No going back. Should a boxer waste his whole energy during the first rounds of a boxing bout? Perhaps, Mohammed Ali or Floyd 'Money' Mayweather should answer this.( Chuckle)

A couple with only one child always treat the child as if he or she were their breath.

Now, imagine this hunter in this proverb aiming, shooting and missing his target. How would he feel? I will tell you below:

If the hunter had aimed and shot carelessly, he would regret for not being serious. And you know 'had I known' always comes at last. Nothing kills emotions faster than regret. Then, why not be careful?

If the hunter had aimed and shot carefully, there is possibility that he would not miss his target. Even if he missed, he has nothing to regret because he did his best, but fate said,"No!" After all, man proposes, God disposes.

After the Greeks, during the Trojan War, saw that the City of Troy was impregnable because of the thick, high walls surrounding it, Odysseus knew it was time to use the only thing he knew how best to do: cleverness. He was called ' Odysseus the Cunning,' because if his quick and clever mind.

With this gift, Odysseus craftily built a gigantic wooden horse, and some of his men his inside it. The wooden horse( later known as the Trojan horse) had an opening on its belly, from where the Greek soldiers would jump down from and attack the Trojan soldiers.

Odysseus tricked the king of Troy into believing that the wooden horse was a sign of peace. Oh, if the king had known that this horse would be like Harmonia's cursed necklace!

The horse was rolled into the City of Troy on wheels. Immediately it was inside, the Greek soldiers jumped down from inside the belly of the wooden horse, opened the gate for the other Greek soldiers outside the city gate, and attacked the Trojans! Greeks won? the war, thanks to Odysseus' cleverness, artistry and carefulness. If he had misused this single gift...

The proverb is telling us to guard our talents jealously, nurture them, and use them skillfully and masterfully.
