AFRICAN PROVERB:An elephant which kills a rat is not a hero.
MEANING/EXPLANATION:
If a giant kills a dwarf, that is no heroic feat. If a lion kills a deer, that is no extraordinary achievement. And in the same way, if an elephant kills a rat, he should not be hailed as a hero. There is a saying in journalism that 'when a dog bites a man, that is not news. When a man bites a dog , that is news'. Greatness is not merely measured by the size of your challenges we overcome. Greatness is a ratio of our accomplishments to our abilities.
Some people are so spoilt, they want a pat on their shoulders for any small success they chalk up. Of course we should not devalue small achievements. But with that said, we should not blow them out of proportion. In other words, we must not exaggerate them. Now, there is a difference between a bully and brave person. Bullies are cowards pretending to be brave. They are insecure people, who vent their insecurity on weak and helpless people. The brave are strong in themselves. Unlike bullies, they fight for weak and helpless people. Be brave! #LikeAndShare #CameroonianProverb #mozambiqueproverb
